Dying hair from black?

Hello everyone. Thanks in advance for your help. My hair is black, and I know I have to bleach it to dye it any other color. See, I have this beautiful red hair dye and I want to put it in my hair. Is there any way I can bleach it at home without KILLING my hair? Please let me know. Best answer gets 10 points. :]

First, this is tricky because one would need to know the texture of your hair, the condition it is in, in order to properly answer this question.

If your hair is coarse or curly, you might want to only lift it a few shades in order for this color ot show up. The lighter you go, the more damage it is doing to your hair.

If you hair is straight, or in good condition, the color you go shouldn't really matter as long as you take care of it.

I myself, chose a highlighting kit to lighten my hair, and I too was putting a red rinse in, and it gave me enough of my hair color and the red so it wasn't overpowering. The highlighting kits give you about 4 different options as to HOW much of your hair is lightened, and to WHAT PARTS of your head is lightened.

I say try Garnier, my friends who have both fine and coarse hair really like this brand to bleach their hair. I myself, used African Pride Hi-Lites kit, but I have THICK COARSE hair, and knew I couldn't bleach my hair, btu just lift it to a more nautral lighter color.

I HOPE EVERYTHING GOES WELL, AND I HOPE YOU LOOK FABULOUS!!!!

It is easy.... just read the instruction on the paper...just put the red hair dye.. leave it for 30 minutes and wash it off and use conditioner for 2 minutes if you want to make them smooth and silky

As a stylist/ instructor for 13 years, I am almost certain you will not be able to pull this off at home. Black is the most difficult color to remove, even with bleach. Yes the bleach will damage your hair even if you mix it with shampoo; a shampoo cap (1/2 shampoo %26amp; 1/2 bleach). And depending on whether or not the hair has been dyed black repeatedly, how porous the hair is to begin with and of course your application of the bleach, you may end up with a multicolored blotchy mess. Not the perfect surface to apply the red color you are gushing about. You may want to se a professional for this, no kidding. And even then, cross your fingers. I have seen pros goof this up. If you still wnat to attemp it on your oown, you may want to wait untill after the holidays, no one wants to wear a hat during family time.
