How to dye over red highlights??

so i have colored dark brown hair...and i just put red highlights...i used a 40 vol. developer ...so no bleach was involved.....and i washed my hair this morning and my highlights are orange...the red faded completly...i knew red hair dye faded...i didnt know this fast...so my question is!!



if i put a lighter shade of brown on the highlighted part...would it cover it??...and actually get the brown color....or would the color just come out weird????...pls help..... =)



How to dye over red highlights??

anything with peroxide in it will go orange if you have dark hair,particularly a high volume of it. the only thing you can do is use a black hair dye over the orange parts of your hair, it will tone it down to look a dark brown or rust colour instead of orange. only put the black on the rest of your hair if you want it to be black as it is a very solid colour i suggest only doing it over the highlights 15 minutes should be enough make sure that it is a permanent colour one from the supermarket will be fine to use.



How to dye over red highlights??

If the orange bits you've ended up with are lighter than the hair dye it should cover them up fine. The main question is how long it will last. If the red hair dye washed out straight away there's a chance the brown will do exactly the same. The best way to find out what'll happen is to do a strand test on a bit of your hair. There should be instructions on how to do it in the hair dye packet. Then leave it 24 hours and wash it with your normal shampoo. This'll give you an idea of how long it'll last. Hth x
